Genetic identification of victims from bone remains is one of the most complex tasks in forensics. On the field, technicians and medical examiners often have to rely on rudimentary and aggressive tools (such as hammers, saws, or scalpels) that generate volatile bone dust. This drastically increases the risk of cross-contamination and compromises the operator’s safety. Faced with these difficult protocols and the high cost of fixed laboratory equipment, there was a clear need for a mobile, clean, and standardized tool.
This is why FORENSIC MATERIELS SOLUTIONS introduces GENDBONES, an innovative bone matrix sampling solution developed to meet the specific requirements of genetic victim identification from bones. It enables the simple, fast, and secure generation of standardized samples, even in poorly controlled environments.
Adapted to complex situations: Designed for bone sampling in challenging environments (autopsy tables, rubble, graves) without requiring a strictly controlled laboratory environment.
Low risk of contamination: The GENDBONES technique significantly limits cross-contamination risks thanks to a secure collection tube system. Each sample is collected using a dedicated tube, ensuring zero cross-contamination.
Minimal dust production: Unlike traditional tools, GENDBONES generates very little dust and bone fragments, improving both the safety and cleanliness of the sampling process.
Time-saving and high throughput: Technicians can perform consecutive samplings simply by replacing the collection tube and cleaning the cutting head, thereby optimizing productivity.
The system is based on the GENDBONE Trephine, an ingenious modular system that includes: a cutting head, a chuck, a clamp, an adapter piece, a seal, a collection tube, and a tube holder. The trephine is easy to disassemble, allowing for quick cleaning between two samples (can be cleaned using an ultrasonic bath).
To adapt to all bone densities and configurations, the kit includes two complementary battery-powered motor systems:
| Specification | Orthopedic Drill | DREMEL Drill |
|---|---|---|
| Material / Type | High-resistance stainless steel | Compact Lithium-ion 12V (2 Ah) model |
| Rotation Speed | 1,000 to 1,200 rpm | Variable: 5,000 to 30,000 rpm |
| Key Features | 360° rotation, autoclavable at 135 °C | Lightweight: 0.59 kg (without accessories) |
| Compatibility | Quick-connect accessory system | Universal chuck |
Everything you need has been packed into a rigid and robust transport case, designed for immediate deployment at disaster scenes:
1 Orthopedic drill & 1 DREMEL drill with chuck.
3 trephines (tube holder, adapter piece / nut, chuck nut) + 30 collection tubes.
1 box containing 3 clamps, 3 cutting heads, 3 seal caps + 1 box of 50 swabs + 1 collection tube holder.
1 ultrasonic bath + 1 bottle of cleaning solution (specialized for ultrasonics).
1 grinder + 1 grinding ball dispenser (30 balls).
A Multi-Agency Tool: While GENDBONES is an essential asset for Forensic Science Teams (PTS) and the National Gendarmerie, its applications extend to all specialists involved in crisis management and research:
Forensic Medicine & Forensic Anthropology
Disaster Victim Identification
Post-Disaster Interventions (structural collapses, mass graves, major disasters, plane crashes)
Military and Emergency Services (Identification in overseas theaters of operations)
